Finally Got this Bad boy up and Running!

(See Video Post BTC #30 for the Full Hardware Demo)

Below is the First post I made while I was debugging this unit…

The latest Dev unit I’ve been working on, is an SRAM development cartridge for the Sega Genesis… or the Mega Drive for those of you in the UK. This is a 32Mbit SRAM development cartridge. (Designed and Built by Western Technologies Inc.)

The cartridge interfaces to a Development PC over an LPT Parallel port located on the back side of the PCBA as shown here below:

I had a lot of problems with this unit, including the fact that the EPROMS on this cartridge were missing. As well there were some modifications performed to the board which appear to be disabling the unit from functioning properly over the PC interface.

Western Technologies Inc. Genesis Dev cart – Interfaced to an IBM PC via LPT Parallel port.

A number of the PCB traces were also Cut…which didn’t make any sense to me from an electronics Logic standpoint. I then noticed a note mentioning how older boards had to be modified in order to accommodate the memory daughter boards. This was interesting and got me thinking…

Debugging is ongoing.

Further Updates will follow.
